I’m going to take a break from Vintage Tuesday today. I have been reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and it has really affected how I spend my time and what I think about. His mantra is, “Evolve or Die”. I wish they’d put it on billboards everywhere. I couldn’t agree more.
What I like about this saying is that it so simply sums up the problem. Get on board people! It’s now or never! We can change the world. It is still possible. It will take some higher thought and some practice but we must do it. We have to do it. We are capable of doing it. So let’s go. Let’s evolve.
I used to study meta-cognition in dolphins. We were testing to see if they had “conscious” thought. If you put a mirror in front of them they were able to determine that it was their reflection in it and not think it was another dolphin. They knew thyself but they did not care. They could look at themselves and go, yeah that’s me, so what? Why does this pertain to today’s post? We need to be more like dolphins. We need to be able to look in a mirror and go, yeah that’s me, so what? We need to ask ourselves, what’s the bigger picture? Do I really need another handbag to look even more fabulous in the mirror? or a better car? or a bigger house? It will still be the same me looking back no matter what. So why do we get so concerned and fearful about not obtaining certain things or becoming so obsessed with what we need to have one day?
When you find yourself worrying about the future remember that fear stands for:
Future
Events
Appearing
Real
You wouldn’t spend time shopping for things that don’t exist so why waste time worrying about things that haven’t happened?
As Eckhart says, if we can live in the moment and appreciate the “is-ness” of what “is” all around us we will realize we do not need all these things and that will be the beginning of how we save our planet. Let’s get out of our heads and stop worrying about things that don’t exist and start paying attention to the things that do. Audrey Hepburn said it really well when she said:
“Pick the day. Enjoy it – to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come … The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present – and I don’t want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future.” – Audrey Hepburn
Life is too be enjoyed now! It is not a fine wine. It will not keep. It will not get better with age. So get on with it! As my friend Mark says, “the time is always now!” The beauty is in the details. Whether talking to an old friend at lunch and realizing how compassionate and kind they are, or how the sun shines through the window and feels warm on your skin, or that they have beautiful eyes that light up with laughter or noticing the flowers outside on your way to work, take time to appreciate what is.
Live fearlessly!

My friend Michelle loved her “i blend” t-shirt so much that she wanted me to make more! Thanks for the inspiration Michelle! I’ve added more to my shop so check them out:

In honor of Earth Day don’t use plastic bags. It’s time to get your own reusable grocery bag!!
